HiArts

The HiArts Exhibition and Festival again lived up to its reputation as a great place for meeting people and for the variety, quality and display of art. Though numbers were down on previous years and the wind tried desperately to cheat the enthusiasm, the weekend was a great success. Children thoroughly enjoyed themselves trying on the dress ups, working with clay, playing games, and were walking art themselves with their fabulous painted faces. Of course we cannot forget the variety of stories told, poetry read and the music that entertained most of the day. If that wasn’t all, the food was terrific, the wine, coffee and tea kept us all in a great mood of community conviviality. Though it is too early to assess, funds were raised for the Fire Appeal, the CFA and the Hall. We already look forward to 2010.

  • Chalk Urban Art Festival
    Closes on 30 Jul 2009
We've all seen those marvellous drawings in the city and shopping centres and wondered how much better could it get - well, if you go to Darling Harbour during the competition you can see for yourself the best of the best. If you're one of these talented street artists, able to get to Sydney and over 18 then an application is a must.

We're looking for diversity in styles, i.e. traditional, contemporary, indigenous, anamorphic perspective, graffiti art and more. WE ONLY ASK THAT YOU WORK IN CHALK!

Up to 40 artists will be selected to compete, each will be assigned a pavement space of approximately 2m x 3m on which to work for the following 4 days. Each artist will be provided with a starter kit by Faber Castell.

Chalk Urban Art Festival now includes an urban music program, street theatre, graffiti workshops, spoken word / performance poetry, a wearable art showcase & urban fashion parade, food stalls and art workshops.

Pavement art has a long history in Europe dating back to the middle ages in Italy where artists used the pavement as their canvas and chalk as their medium to transform streets and sidewalks into beautiful works of art.
