HiArts

The HiArts Exhibition and Festival again lived up to its reputation as a great place for meeting people and for the variety, quality and display of art. Children thoroughly enjoyed themselves trying on the dress ups, working with clay, playing games, and were walking art themselves with their fabulous painted faces. Of course we cannot forget the variety of stories told, poetry read and the music that entertained most of the day. If that wasn’t all, the food was terrific, the wine, coffee and tea kept us all in a great mood of community conviviality.

Robert Boyd

My art represents a construct of past, present and future and draws upon the complexities of experience and discovery through my abstraction of the body. I form a symbolized architectural and sculptural metaphor of life. The harmonics of each point of the simplest line is a thought and an essence of being. It is a movement in time which resonate the importance of a collective narrative. Each painting is interwoven with a thread of spirituality that links all of my artworks together.

Peter King

Metal sculptures Peter King. Peter lives with his wife Catriona on a property in the Strathbogie Ranges. He has only recently taken up working with metal and manages to produce considerable work in between farming cattle and olives and working on a near by vineyard/winery. His work has already appeared in a number of exhibition sites including HiArts

Philip Wisher

This abstract is by Philip Wisher. Philip began his artistic career in 1991 whilst living in Tokyo. He has travelled widely and lived for a time in inland Australia where he had had contact with a number of indigenous artists. Much of his work has reflected his inland experience. In particular he has produced some fascinating work on canvases stretched on twisted and gnarled eucalypt branches. He has exhibited in Melbourne, Tokyo and New York. He has taught art at the Yea Primary School and is currently Head of Art at the Yea Secondary College. Kimberley McGowan was one of his students

Jeff Moorfoot

Jeff is a photographic artist. He is Festival Director of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale also an entrant in hiarts 08 .

Susan Fell-Mclean

Textiles by Susan Fell-Mclean. Susan has exhibited widely in Australia and overseas, including Italy, Malaysia, Canada and Belgium. She has spoken of her art in a number of overseas gatherings. Her aim is to employ textiles, sculptures and installations, to articulate a sense of place and history, connecting different places and times. She studied a Master of Visual Arts Degree at Monash, where she was awarded a studio position in 2006 at the Monash University Centre in Tuscany, Italy. She brings to her art a unique mixture of media, frequently combining with other artists.

Mount Eyre Vineyards Art Prize
Closes on 17 May 2010
Mount Eyre Vineyards from The Hunter Valley NSW, in association with rex-livingston art dealer, Sydney, initiated the Mount Eyre Vineyards Art Prize in 2009. This unique partnership gives entrants the chance to win the first prize of $8000 and other prizes, exhibit their artwork in a respected commercial gallery and further, the potential for publishing the winning artwork on a wine label (If suitable) for a limited edition wine release made exclusively by Mount Eyre Vineyards.

The prize is open to painters, sculptors, photographers and artists working in new media and is not genre specific.

Prizes:
- Winner (acquisitive prize) - $8,000 and an opportunity to have the winning work on a label for a wine from the vineyard.
- Second Prize - $1,000
- People's Choice - $500
Entry fee for 2010: $35 for one, $60 for two entries.

Winner for 2010 announced: Thursday 24 June 2010.

The Continental Hotel Annual Art Prize

The Continental Hotel is proud to provide an exhibition space for artists locally and from further afield. We have been staging our annual art prize for 9 years with great assistance from local artist John Baird and take great care with providing the best service possible for our artists and customers. We are pleased to be able to provide an opportunity for many people to see art who may not normally venture into an art gallery. That is the beauty of being a hotel, we can combine our passion for art and culture with food and music.

Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize
Closes on 14 May 2010
Hosted by the South Australian Museum the Waterhouse Natural History art prize comes with total prizes valued at $114,500. The prize was established in 2003 and is named after the first curator of the South Australian Museum, Frederick Waterhouse.

Prizes
- First prize (acquisitive) receives $50,000
- the People's Choice prize is $5000.
The award has 3 categories - paintings, works on paper and sculpture (3D objects).
The winner of each category is awarded:
- 1st - $10,000
- 2nd - $5000
- 3rd - $2,500
The Waterhouse Youth Award is offering the following prizes to entrants aged betwee 16-25 :
- 1st prize - $4,000
- 2nd - $2,000
- 3rd - $1,000
Prize Winners are announced on 16 July 2010.
